Free Legal Advice & Assistance

If you or a loved one is detained under the Mental Health Act, you are automatically eligible for free legal aid. Our solicitors can visit you in the hospital and provide expert legal guidance at no cost.

For Patients

If you are being held in a hospital under the Mental Health Act and have concerns about your treatment or wish to apply for discharge through the Mental Health Tribunal, we can assist you.

If you have been discharged but are subject to a Community Treatment Order (CTO), you have the right to apply for the CTO to be removed. Legal aid is automatically available for these cases and is completely free of charge.

For Relatives & Carers

If you are the nearest relative of someone detained under the Mental Health Act, you have important legal rights, including the ability to apply for their discharge. If the hospital refuses this request, you can challenge the decision through the Mental Health Tribunal. Legal aid is also available for this process.
